Worthy Down Support Unit Case Study

Robust Flooring for Military Training at Worthy Down

When designing a gym for free weights and functional training in a demanding environment, choose a product that has strength, flexibility and longevity.

The Project

CMS Danskin were recently approached by a respected gym fit out company to assist them with a strength and conditioning facility in a tri-service military base in Hampshire. This company have worked with CMS Danskin on gym products for many years and approached us to supply flooring for the entire 332m2 facility at Worthy Down, home of the new Defence College of Logistics, Policing and Administration which provides a single site for training key support roles for the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Airforce.

Military Gym Flooring – The Challenges

Facilities for military training often have a number of specific requirements. In this case the requirements were:

  1. A Single Flooring Type: this facility required a single robust flooring solution suitable for free weights, providing a heavy-duty dropping zone, plus user comfort during functional training and whilst using a variety of equipment.
  2. Robustness: the facility required a particularly robust solution able to meet the high standards expected by a military client.
  3. Relocation: Part of the brief was that the entire facility could be rapidly broken down and moved out, including the flooring.

High Performance Flooring for Weight Training

CMS Danskin Acoustics discussed the design requirements and recommended a specialist flooring for the strength and conditioning facility, consisting of REGUPOL everroll® multitile 43mm, laid over a 10mm everroll® Impact Pad protection layer.

Everroll® multitile 43mm is an extra robust tile designed for use in free weights areas, with a Force Reduction rating of approximately 44.2%. The specialist resilient flooring for fitness environments, everroll® not only helps to minimise impact sound; its shock absorbing and anti-slip properties are also designed to protect gym members during workouts.

To enable rapid and effective relocation of the flooring, everoll® multitile does not need to be adhered to the subfloor and instead the 1000x500mm tiles can be pegged together for easy disassembly and reassembly at a later date.

Everoll® multitile also offers a superior appearance as the surface is non-reflective, maintaining a consistency of colour in all lighting conditions. It is available in a number of colourways; on this occasion the client chose black with a red fleck. The project completed in January 2023.
